Friday night happy hour found the Omelette staking out a new locale-Interstate Kitchen and Bar at 901 W 10th Ave (10th and Santa Fe). I had spied an advertisement for this gem in a local restaurant guide and when I saw that they served deviled eggs and reverse root beer floats (root beer ice cream with vanilla soda) I knew it was the place for me.
Luckily the Omelette and our Men’s Auxilary agreed. I do believe it was this quote from the website that was the selling point, “No spirit better defines America’s distilleries than whiskey. Whether you prefer it Kentucky straight, Bourbon, Tennessee or good ‘ol fashion ‘shine, Interstate’s bar will surely have your poison.” We do love our whiskey.
And apparently we love to eat. Out of our group of 8, seven of us managed to consume the following items from the menu:
- Two orders of deviled eggs
- Lap dog
- Mini-wedge salad
- Fried pickles
- Fried chicken livers with house-made hot sauce and pickles
- Fried shrimp ravioli
- Hot pastrami on rye with house-made salt and vinegar chips
- Two cheesesteak sandwiches
- Side order of shoestring potatoes
- Fried chicken with pork belly green beans
- Monte Cristo with shoestring potatoes
- Tomato soup with griddled cheese
The amazing thing is that we all only have good things to say! Not one complaint regarding the food. I would suggest letting the deviled eggs come to room temperature and must say that the shoestring potatoes are a must, the seasoning is amazing. Mama called the wedge salad ‘unique’ and Betty claimed the tomato soup was ‘spicy!’ and delish.
If the food isn’t enough of a reason the whiskey list should be. I was delighted to find on their specialty drink menu a mix called the Horse Neck: whiskey, ginger ale and a twist of lemon. It’s my drink! However 1/2 of the time I order a whiskey/ginger ale or a whiskey 7-up and end up with a whiskey/soda. Pepper does not like. If sipping whiskey is your thing you won’t be disappointed. They have easily 60 different options on their whiskey list.
And don’t forget to tell ’em the Denver Omelette sent ya!
